GEnerators for harsh environments

WHICH GENERATORS ARE SUITABLE FOR HARSH ENVIRONMENTS?

From baking desert heat to bone-chilling frozen wastes, you’ll find generators delivering power in some of the world’s toughest conditions. These generators need to be robust and reliable, so must be designed and built to perform in harsh environments. If you need a generator that can cope when the going gets tough, make sure they are suitable to meet such challenges and are up to the job.

FEATURES TO LOOK OUT FOR

Harsh environments call for an enclosed canopy to keep the weather out, whether vertical rainfall or wind-blown snow. Robust paintwork can be applied over treated metalwork to resist corrosion. Machine airflow should be designed to minimise the amount of dust, debris, and water being drawn in through the vents, whilst controlling internal temperatures.

INSULATION

Look out for insulation of the generator windings as this wants to be at least class F. Some manufacturers offer marine or double-dipped options. Engines may also benefit from oil or water jacket heaters for cold conditions, and additional air filtration.

GENERATORS FOR HARSH CONDITIONS

Robust generators worth checking out include the Inmesol Rental 40-60kVA. It is protected with Qualicoat paint that provides high resistance to ultraviolet radiation and greater durability even under severe and extreme environmental conditions.
